How to Use Fluke Volt Tester

Here you will see how I use a Fluke Volt tester to check for current in a circuit. The one I am using is the Fluke 1AC II VoltAlert Non Contact Tester.

Check out this video below:

Video of Drew using the Fluke 1AC II VoltAlert Non Contact Tester.

This tool is designed to test for current simply by touching it to a switch, receptacle, box or anything with a live current running through it.

This tool works by turning the device on and pressing the tip against the device you want to test.

Using the Fluke Volt Alert to test a switch.

When the volt alert is turned on the red light on the tip with blink every second or two. When you press it against a device it will do one of two things.

  1. If there is current running through the device it will show a solid red light.
  2. If there is no current detected the tip will continue to flash red, blinking every second or two.

Using the Fluke 1AC II VoltAlert Non Contact Tester is very simple. However, be sure to read all of the user instruction for the Fluke 1AC II VoltAlert to fully understand how the device works.

It’s important to note that if a box or switch cover is too thick the volt tester might not pick up a reading. Be sure to get the tip of the volt alert close enough to the wire to get a good reading.

I use this device as additional conformation that the power is off and never solely rely on the devices reading.
